Metaphors: An Approach to the Creation and Re-creation of an Architectural Work (Case Study: Behshahr Industrial Group)

Abstract

Undoubtedly, creative reinvention stands as a cornerstone of design and a unique, indispensable factor that defines the distinctiveness, superiority, and aesthetic appeal of a building compared to its counterparts. Architecture—as a manifestation of human life within specific temporal and spatial contexts—reflects human thought, beliefs, and ways of living; it articulates identity through the medium of conceptualization and creativity, establishing the architect as the creator of the architectural work. First and foremost, the reflection of the architect's personality in the architectural work, followed by the work's cultural significance and its affiliation with a specific intellectual movement and society—alongside the artist's talent and creativity, as well as prevailing cultural and artistic currents—exert a profound influence on the outcome of the architect's work, which stands as an artistic creation in the form of an architectural phenomenon. Thus, it can be noted that the variables in this study—including the dependent variables—are nominal and qualitative in nature. Regarding intervening variables, the influence of cultural, social, political, and economic currents plays a role, manifesting through concepts such as tangible and intangible strategies. This article aims to analyze and deconstruct the metaphors employed in the aforementioned structure—specifically the Behshahr Industrial Group complex designed by Nader Ardalan—using a qualitative, interpretive-historical approach.
